Walk of the Week: The Highlands, Isle of Skye & Edinburgh

Each August, thousands of people flock to Scotland's capital to enjoy the multitude of activities on offer at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Fringe and International Festival. The festival combines comedy, art, music and tradition, transforming Edinburgh into a bustling hub of culture. In honour of the festival, our walk of this week is The Highlands, Isle of Skye and Edinburgh.

In a Nutshell

Distance: 39-49 miles. Several of the days have different walking options, so you can choose which route to take according to your fitness level.

Grading: Easy to Moderate. There are some more difficult options available - you can even tackle Britain's highest mountain if the mood takes you!

Ben Nevis and Cattle

Where is it?

Your adventure starts in Glasgow, Scotland's biggest city. From there you drive north to Dornie, stopping on the way for a walk in Glencoe. The following day takes you to the Falls of Glomach, a spectacular waterfall, and to Eilean Donan castle. Your base for the next three days is the Isle of Skye, where you can explore the islands on your walks with stunning scenery.  From Skye, move on to Fort William where you can take in the magnificent views of Scotland's highest mountain, Ben Nevis. Finish up your adventure in Edinburgh, where you can explore all the best this historic city has to offer.
