Orkney

If you’re keen to experience the more traditional side of Scottish music, we thoroughly recommend a walking holiday in Orkney. The island prides itself on its folk tradition, with music being a way of life for many of the islanders. As well as the wonderful Orkney Folk Festival in May, why not drop by the Ferry Inn for some live music featuring a guitar, a fiddle or even a mandolin!

The Outer Hebrides

As if the unspoiled landscape, secluded beaches and delicious seafood weren’t enough of a reason to visit, the Outer Hebrides is also home to the Hebridean Celtic Festival. If you’re island-hopping adventure takes place in July, you can relax and listen to some of the top Celtic performers in the country in the grounds of Lewis Castle, overlooking Stornoway Harbour.

Glasgow

Home to some of the best live venues in the UK, Glasgow is an UNESCO City of Music for a reason. With over 130 music events taking place each week, you’ll be spoiled for choice!

If you’re fortunate enough to be in Glasgow at the moment, then the Celtic Connections Festival is a must-see. The annual celebration of Celtic music also features collaborations between folk musicians and other genres such as Ghanian street, Indian sarangi and Spanish flamenco.

Edinburgh

Not to be outdone by its rival to the West, Edinburgh has its fair share of musical delights to offer visitors. Whether you prefer folk, rock or classical, the city is full of incredible venues to suit everyone.
