Tour du Mont Blanc Travel Guide

Travelling to take on the challenge of the Tour du Mont Blanc could not be more straightforward. Les Houches is the gateway to your Tour du Mont Blanc Experience and is easily accessible from nearby Geneva. Below is a simple list of how to get to and from your start/endpoints.walker on the tour du mont blanc Simple to travel to, and well worth it too.

Getting to Les Houches/from Chamonix

By Air: Geneva is the best airport for the Chamonix valley.  From here you catch a train if you wish, but the best option is to take a pre-booked shuttle through a company such as Mountain Dropoffs. Your Destination & Adventure Specialist will be happy to book this for you. The transfer takes around 1hr 15 mins to Les Houches and 1hr 20 mins from Chamonix. By Rail: There is currently no direct train from Geneva to Chamonix, so you have to travel to Saint-Gervais-Le Fayet and then catch the Mont Blanc Express service to Les Houches. www.voyages-sncf.com For the return, they are regular trains between Chamonix and St Gervais les Bains Le Fayet. Altogether the train from Geneva takes around 3 hours. By Road: Highway A40-E25 Mont Blanc-Chamonix, exit Les Houches. More information at www.viamichelin.fr Parking: In Les Houches, there is free parking at the Bellevue Cableway station, and parking is allowed and free in some surrounding streets close to your hotel. In Chamonix, free parking at the Aiguille du Midi & the parking Planards (Montenvers station). Walker on the Tour du Mont Blanc If you don't fancy the walk up, there are always Cablecars.

Travel during the walk

Depending on which type of trip you take on the Tour du Mont Blanc, you may have to use some transport during the trip. The more comfortable itineraries that Macs Adventure offer means that rather than significant ascents on some days, you can simply take cable cars.  These cannot be booked in advance, so we ask you to pay for them on arrival. The following transfers are necessary during our Relaxed Tour du Mont Blanc in Comfort. You should allow about €40 for these transfers. Day 12: Cable car from La Flégère or Plan Praz to Chamonix Day 13: Cable car from Chamonix to La Flégère or Plan Praz If you are finding the going too tough, you can use lifts or public transport to skip several of the stages or big ascents/descents. Public transport and lifts/funiculars are not included in the cost of your trip and although your info pack has full details of each transfer you need to pay for these.
